Improve self esteem - Increase confidence - Improve mental health - Gain positivity
About
Welcome to Coping Skills Workshops.
Dawn and Vince run a variety of workshops which have provided a wealth of coping and social skills to help people overcome personal and workplace obstacles.
Our empathetic and relaxed approach creates a safe and calming environment which helps to improve self-esteem and confidence, improve mental health and boost positivity. We enjoy working with people from all walks of life and of any age.
The workshops so far have encouraged people to share their stories; It’s humbling at times to hear people’s life stories and the challenges they have faced.
Although the website shows the standard workshops on offer, it is very much a bespoke service. Each workshop can be tweaked to include any particular aspect the client wishes to cover. One size absolutely does not fit all!
Please feel free to contact us if you have any queries or wish to make a booking.
Dawn
History
Dawn worked in the Special Needs Dept of a secondary school for 17 years before teaming up with Jenny to create Coping Skills Workshops. We took our Anxiety Workshop into schools where we helped staff with their own anxiety and increased their understanding of students’ issues and how to deal with them. Jenny sadly passed away in March 2020 and, with the lockdown too, everything came to a standstill for a few months. I then began running workshops on Zoom, including for students at Amnesty Maastricht, which have all gone down very well.
Vince joined CSW in October 2021, he has a background in Social Care since 2003, bringing experience of directly supporting vulnerable adults in the community, working as an advocate, a Mentor and coach in many guises through charities and self-employment commissioning.
Both Dawn and Vince are passionate about the bigger picture of community and see these workshops as a part of assisting mental well-being to not just the clients we serve, but also their own wider circle of life.

As we all know, parenting is a very difficult job. We have each raised 3 children and completely understand the challenges. Whether you are finding yourself overwhelmed or just want to learn more about the basics of child development and how anxiety can affect children, this workshop will be for you. We will look at how the child’s brain develops and the behaviours which can be triggered by anxiety. Our mission is to reach as many parents as possible to help them to help their children before their childhood worries become real problems later on. We all want our children to be resilient, sociable members of society and this workshop will help you with strategies to prepare your children for life. It will also help raise awareness of the importance of your own well-being and how it can impact on your child’s anxieties. This workshop is designed to empower and reassure parents and carers of children from 0 to teens.
This workshop is ideal for parent’s groups, whether your children are at the same school, club or just a group of friends who’d like to learn more about your children’s behaviour and what it means. This is a great opportunity to meet other parents and you’ll probably find that you’re not doing a bad job after all!
Anxiety Workshop
In this specially created workshop you will gain an insight into yourself and your responses to anxiety and discover new ways to help yourself and others.
In a relaxed environment we will share our experience of useful strategies, techniques and resources. We will raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of, and the body’s response to, anxiety. This will help to provide an insight into why people behave as they do, leading to greater understanding and communication.
During our workshops there will be no pressure on participants to speak up unless they wish to do so. And absolutely no roleplay!
Coping with Teenagers Workshop
Living or working with teenagers
Aren’t they lovely? We are delighted to be offering this workshop to parents, carers and teachers. Between us we have many years’ experience with these wonderful, challenging, aggravating and funny members of our society, having raised our own through to adulthood, worked in secondary school, further education college and fostered teenagers.
This workshop looks at how the teenager’s brain changes and how they react to the challenges they face. Having an understanding of what’s going on will empower participants to positively relate with the teen in their lives. Together we will look at what your teenager needs from you, what to look out for and practical ways to help guide your teen through to adulthood.
Being a teenager
We also offer all of our workshops to teenagers to give them greater understanding and awareness of themselves, others and their reactions. These will offer them effective coping mechanisms which will help to boost confidence and self-esteem.
Restorative Justice Workshop
Restorative Justice (RJ) is a highly effective way to sensitively resolve conflict and put right harm done by bringing together anyone involved in an incident or ongoing issue. It works because it offers the “victim” and the “offender” the opportunity to come together with others who have been affected by the situation and resolve it. They all have their voices heard. The carefully planned conference allows the “victim” to find out why it happened and then to have a major say in how the “offender” can put right the harm they caused. The “offender” is made to understand that they are not bad but made a bad choice and are given whatever support they need in addressing the wrong they did.
RJ is routinely used by the Police and many schools and colleges have trained facilitators. We know by experience that it can be used for many issues including bullying, unruly student behaviour, theft and assault to name a few. Please feel free to contact us to discuss your particular situation to find out if RJ would be suitable. RJ is a powerful tool in helping to keep students in education, preventing the breakdown of foster placements and resolving conflict with colleagues.
Specific Difficulties Workshop
Are you stuck in a rut? Do you dread going to work or meeting people? Have you stopped doing things you used to enjoy? From time to time we run bespoke workshops for small groups of people with a specific difficulty. This could be lack of motivation, goal setting, interview techniques, time management, exam nerves, panic attacks, overcoming feelings of powerlessness or hopelessness or pretty much anything which interferes with your daily life. This would involve participants attending the initial workshop with follow-up sessions as required.
Our relaxed, friendly sessions in small groups aim to help you understand what’s happening physically and make these anxieties easier for you to deal with. There will be no pressure on anyone to disclose what their anxieties are with the group. There will be ample opportunity for participants to ask us questions and discuss the various strategies that could help them.
If this is of interest to you then please contact us so that we can discuss this further and we will advise you when and where our next suitable workshop will be.
Social Skills Workshop
Do you find it hard to understand the real meaning behind people’s words? Are you confused by facial expressions? Is small-talk a social minefield? If so our workshops can help.

Body language
